What a fun day! Mike and I went to Cincinnati. We went to the airport to exchange his Hong Kong money from last summer, then we parked at Newport on the Levee. I never thought I'd have the nerve to do this, but we crossed the Purple People Bridge into Cincinnati...I think most of you know my feelings about heights and water. Needless to say, I was QUITE proud of myself! We had lunch, then walked to the Underground Railroad Freedom Center, where we spent about 3 hours. One of the more interesting parts of the trip was that we got to see the slave cabin that we actually had the opportunity to visit a few years ago while it was still in Germantown. I think Mike pointed out all the differences in the cabin after its move to Cincy. :) Our last stop in the Cincinnati area took us to Jungle Jim's -- best grocery store ever!!! So many interesting thing to see -- particularly the meats section -- hog's head, chicken feet, duck heads (please remember that as a butcher's daughter, I worked in meat since the age of 12, so forgive me if I sound overly facinated with the selection). The foreign food selection is the main reason for going...we stocked up on spaetzle (german noodles) and milka (chocolate). The only disappointment of the trip was that they didn't have my favorite Milka bar (the kind with the cookie and cream in the middle that tastes so good when it's been in the refrigerator for several hours)...but that just means we'll have to take another trip to the area soon!
